There are a number of barns at the Fort Worth Stock Show, mostly filled with cows. It is Cowtown after all.
It’s interesting to watch how people act around animals that most of them have no experience with.

Well, down goes another Big 10 opponent. The score looked more respectable than last year’s game with Illinois, but it was a Trojan romp in the first half. Our defense has had better days this year, but the offense gave them a good cushion.
These are from my iPhone, posted at Hurry Curry after the game. More pictures and video to come, including footage of the B-2 flying over the Rose Bowl!
I stopped watching the auditions. It just seems mean. I generally like the actual competition because those people have some talent. I don’t have to take a shower after watching at that point. Some people take it way too seriously, though.
And to think that they’ll be voting for President in a couple of years. Of course, they’ll never show that much emotion over the election. Unless David Archuleta runs (Don’t laugh. Who would have thought Ronald Reagan would be president in 1958?)
Lost in all the hubbub surrounding Rick Warren, it should be noted that the Reverend Lowery will wrap up the day with a message. I wasn’t familiar with him until someone posted a link to his eulogy of Coretta Scott King. I admit that I didn’t watch the event when it occurred, but a website posted the YouTube video of Rev. Lowery and I wanted to share it.
When I was in high school, we were forced to read “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, a sermon by one of the earliest celebrity pastors in the Colonies, Jonathan Edwards. I must admit, it is a powerful image. But it lacks the lyrical quality of this address. Listening to Rev. Lowery reminds me of a great Blues performance. It’s a unique style of preaching that was never present in the white, middle class Southern Baptist churches I grew up in. It was badly aped by preachers in the Charismatic churches I later found, again mostly dominated by white, middle-class followers. I’m glad we have something like YouTube to share these moments because these voices are often lost in American culture.
Whatever you think of the President-elect’s choice for the invocation, he picked a damn good preacher to wrap things up.
I went on a cruise during the summer and had a chance to visit Canada for the first time. It’s a nice place, not too different from the North-East United States (which we also visited during the trip). These photos came from our trip to Saint John’s and, speaking of America, Bar Harbor in Maine. Enjoy!
This is a lovely view of the harbor with the Caribbean Princess visible in the distance.
It was a good concert. We were at the Kodak Theater (where they have the Oscar show) and it showcased the finalists for the institute’s scholarship this year. The highlight was a set featuring B. B. King (the honoree this year), Bono, and The Edge. It was a great event and showcased a worthy organization.
